a - Sgian Dubh - Thistle Emblem

Thistle emblem on handle

Chrome thistle trim and chromed blade

Length: approx 19cm (blade approx 9cm)

The Sgian Dubh, is generally worn in the upper sock, whilst wearing the kilt.

Sgian dubh literally means black dagger, and there are many versions of its spelling and even more debates on how its name was derived- from the colour of the handle, to the dark (black) secret, in that the knife was usually concealed under the armpit and only displayed courteously in the sock when in the company of those you trust. Some regimental offices have even tattooed onto their outer leg an image of the handle. At this price, there is no need to resort to that!
